There is a Weekly Peace Vigil on Tappan Square on Saturdays at Noon. You can find us at the corner of College and Main Streets.

The Lightbeams, PCC's Senior Group, meets for breakfast on the third Thursday of each month at 11:00.

If you would like information, support, or encouragement about peace-making efforts, feel free to contact Mary or Steve Hammond. They can put you in touch with a variety of local and national networks of folk who are working for peace.

The Community Peace Builders meets monthly, on the first Wednesday at 4:00 at First Church. The CPB is a group dedicated to bringing together the area's diverse peace and justice communities.

Mary Hammond is the keeper of Peacemakers List which is an email list for those in the Oberlin area who want to keep up with announcements and information on peace and justice concerns. If you would like to be included, contact Mary.

Up-Coming Events...

Acting Out--Stories from the Acts of the Apostles meets at the Church on Wednesday nights at 7:30. Rather than going through the Book of Acts chapter by chapter, we are looking at several stories from the Book of Acts.

The CROP Walk is April 27. See Kevin Moe to get an envelope so you can start getting sponsors.

The Big Parade is May 3. Meet at Eastwood School between 10:00 and 10:30 to find our place in the line-up. We will be led by the kids in the church.

On May 4th, the congregation will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Mary Hammond's Ordination. The Rev. Julie Reuning-Scherer (OC '92) will be the guest preacher for the morning's worship service. There will be a lunch after church and a Community Open House that afternoon from 2:00-4:00 at the Stinebring-Powell's, 171 E. College St.

Katrina Forman and Edwin Avarca, two interns at the Immigrant Worker Project (IWP) and students at Oberlin College, will be speaking from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the May Peace Potluck Friday, May 9th. The title of their talk is, “Las Fronteras dentro de Fronteres: Im/migrant Life in Rural Ohio” (the translation of the Spanish is “Borders within Borders”). Katrina and Edwin coordinate English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) classes in Oberlin, Willard, Vermilion, and Huron. They also work as interpreters and perform other court services for IWP in the Oberlin-area.
During their presentation, the speakers will discuss the challenges facing im/migrants in Ohio, especially in rural areas like Oberlin. They will also provide more in-depth analysis of the ways IWP attempts to engage with these communities in their struggles for justice. A brief clip from a film called "Lagrimas Amargas" (Bitter Tears), documenting the lives of im/migrants in rural Ohio and made by the organization, will be shown.

The Post Office Food Drive is May 10. Place non-perishable food items on your porch and your Letter Carrier will get them deliver them to the Hotmeals Program. If you can help sort the food at Hotmeals, let Mary Caroniti know.
